UBF Acquires Non-Woven Business of The Smith Family
Aug 01
Tontine Insulation's parent company, United Bonded Fabrics (UBF) Pty. Ltd, is pleased to announce the acquisition of the non-woven business of The Smith Family.
The Smith Family ("TSF") is a national Australian independent children's charity that helps disadvantaged children by unlocking opportunities through education and learning. As part of its charitable operations TSF owns and operates two commercial businesses, namely clothing recycling (collection and sale of recycled clothing throughout NSW and to export markets) and non-woven technical textile manufacturing operations.
Since its original formation, TSF's non-wovens business has grown to become an integrated designer, manufacturer and distributor of recycled and virgin fibre textile products. TSF's manufacturing plant is located in NSW and combines a variety of processes such as carding, needle-punching and thermal bonding to manufacture a wide range of fabrics and felt. These processes have the same technology base and are complimentary to those used by UBF, and merging these capabilities will result in both synergies in manufacture and opportunity in further product innovation.
Some of TSF's products include:
-
Carpet underlay
-
Automotive fabrics
-
Wall coverings
-
Pin boards
-
Liquid filtration
-
Cloth wipes
-
Geotextiles
-
Blankets
UBF, Tontine Insulation and The Smith Family look forward to the merging of these businesses creating a world class and sustainable manufacturing enterprise to benefit all stakeholders including staff and customers.

Tontine Insulation Receives Green Tag Gold Plus Certification
Jun 23

Environmentally conscious designers, architects and builders can now look out for Australia's first Green Tag Gold Plus rated insulation products from TONTINE INSULATION.
Tontine Insulation is the first insulation product in Australia to receive a Gold Plus rating after going through rigorous evaluation to determine its exceptional 'green factor'.
Tontine Insulation products have been independently evaluated for their Life Cycle Assessment, environmental and health impact over the life of the product and ecotoxicity. Boasting the highest score in the category of Health and Ecotoxicity, Tontine Insulation products are proven to be ecologically friendly and especially beneficial in homes and buildings where allergies and asthma sufferers are a concern.
Tontine Insulation products can also help designers and architects building Green Star buildings earn Green Star points for higher ratings.
From ecospecifier.org: Green TagTM is a third party, green building product rating and certification system, underpinned by rigorous scientific and Life Cycyle Assessment (LCA) processes. Its advanced, robust LCA certification methodology developed exclusively by ecospecifier, is a world first.
The Green TagTM ecolabel rating positions a product within the top end of the green product market enabling us to be able for the first time to fully communicate the work we have undertaken to improve the ecological and health benefits of our products.
Green TagTM is the new benchmark in green product certification.

Tontine Insulation Stars at the ABC
Feb 07

ABC Studios Rise from the Ground
Australia's broadcaster, the ABC, has added extra dimension to their non-commercial facilities. Taking a total of 36 months to complete, the studio complex has a floor area of more than 24,000 square metres in one of the nations leading commercial districts.
Deadly Silence Mandatory
Aside from the advanced technological needs of a modern day recording studio, silence is paramount, as is acoustic integrity. When recording engineers strut their stuff (so to speak), they insist that only the desired sound is laid to bed for on-air program transmission. The same principle applies to live recordings. This means that any external noise must be stopped, and internal noise must not reverberate in a manner that will distort the recorded tracks.
Into Hot Water
Pipework insulation was also included to ensure temperature efficiency in the hot water pipe system. Tontine's Insulwrap was the preferred choice and in all, 3000 lineal meters of pipe was insulated through the entire project.
Sound Conclusions
Acoustic Engineer Arup Acoustics was commissioned to provide design expertise, specify and oversee the acoustic insulation requirements. Two key acoustic requirements for the studio insulation were set; to achieve high sound absorption coefficients from the material across a broad frequency range, and to ensure a guarantee of consistency of that sound absorption performance from the insulation product selected. Tontine Acoustisorb 2, with its small denier size satisfied these acoustic requirements and, being a polyester-based product, it displayed OH&S advantages for both installation and ongoing environmental aspects.
In a number of instances, Tontine Insulation products were also used as a finishing surface due to their combined insulating and aesthetic qualities.

Top Aussie Scientists insist on Tontine Insulation products
Jan 07

Australia's Top Research Laboratories
There is little doubt that the CSIRO is foremost in Australian research, and indeed a world leader in its field.
When Australia's Joint Research Laboratories were being planned for North Ryde, CSIRO's research scientists were involved at ground level to ensure that they had a major input into the building of one of the most advanced and safest facilities available.
Project architects said that the CSIRO scientists held a series of planning meetings to review their needs. When considering thermal and acoustic insulation, the scientists decided on using Tontine Insulation because they met the specification requirements.
Health & Safety a Major Factor
Tontine Insulation's National Sales and Marketing Manager Mr David Elms quotes former National Products Manager Mr Pat O'Conner as saying that all areas of industry are acutely aware of the need to provide a safe workplace environment.
Tontine Insulation's products doe not require tedious implementation of the vast safety procedures required for glass, fibre and wool as outlined in the "Industry Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Glass Wool and Rock Wool Insulation" Code, which specifies mandatory procedures to protect the safety of workers and those near the work areas.
Little surprise then that those qualified in these aspects choose to use the safest and easiest option. All Tontine's insulation products have been tested for their safety and performance, with continuing research to improve our already extensive products range.
One Stop Shop
A distinct advantage of dealing with Australia's foremost insulation manufacturer is that virtually all areas of a project's insulation needs can be satisfied from one single source, regardless whether it be acoustic or thermal. The end result is a well coordinated supply chain and competitive pricing to attain project requirements.
